Join the River Otters Swim Team!
DANVILLE FAMILY YMCA

Come swim with the Danville Y Swim Team! This competitive program offers children and teens an opportunity to work with trained coaches to improve swimming skills and endurance, as well as to promote a healthy lifestyle. Swim meets are scheduled against other teams in the Piedmont YMCA Swimming Association, typically at other Y locations on Saturdays.

For more information, contact: Jenna Leach, Swim Team Coach, at [email protected] or Casey Favor, Assistant Coach, at [email protected] or by calling (434) 792-0621.
All new swimmers must be evaluated to determine which group is most appropriate for their skill level. Swimmers must be a member of the Danville Family YMCA.

The swim team depends on the abilities of the coaching staff and on the volunteer efforts of the swim team families.  Therefore, there are certain expectations for all of us:

The Coaches
  • Arrives on time and is prepared for every practice

  • Teaches good sportsmanship
  • Works with every swimmer on the team

  • Treats all swimmers with respect and discretion
  • Provides a safe, healthy training environment that keeps winning in perspective

  • Answers swimmers & parents questions regarding participation & expectations during meets
  • Helps swimmers set and evaluate goals

Coach Jenna has been swimming competitively since the age of 5 and still competes, when she can, to this day. By the age of 10, she was nationally ranked and competed at Nationals as a teenager. She began coaching with summer league teams at the age of 15 and has coached every level, from mom and tot all the way up to adult lessons and everything in between in the 20 years since. Jenna believes that while the core focus of coaching is swimming, it also includes developing the swimmer as an individual and teaching core values like hard work, dedication, good sportsmanship, and self-confidence. She also encourages team building and participation in other training events outside of the pool.
Coach Casey began swimming competitively in the Hampton Roads area at 4 years old. She swam on multiple USA Swimming and summer league teams for 10 years, then swam all 4 years of high school. As an Age Group swimmer, her accolades include qualifying for Age Group Champs multiple times, achieving AAA times, anchoring a relay that was the fourth fastest relay in the nation, and traveling to Vienna, Austria, in 2007 as a People to People Sports Ambassador. Coach Casey was a Captain of Western Branch High School's swim team during her senior season. After the season ended, she was awarded the “Most Dedicated” award.

Coach Casey joined the River Otters coaching staff as Assistant Coach in 2017. She primarily coaches the Sea Otter and Giant Otter groups. Coach Casey believes in cultivating a healthy competitive environment for swimmers to grow in their self confidence as well as swimming ability. She is goal-oriented with a focus on energy and enthusiasm on the pool deck."
